Job Description
Columbia River Catholic is seeking a part-time Director of Sacred Music. Our ideal candidate would be one who has a deep love for the heritage and history of Sacred Music in the Catholic Church, with an appreciation and understanding of reverence and sacredness in the Mass. While not being present at these locations during Mass, this person will also have oversight of the liturgical music at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Camas and Star of the Sea Mission in Stevenson.Our ideal candidate would direct all three choirs at Holy Redeemer, as well as oversee all sacred music for Holy Redeemer and St. Thomas Parishes, and coordinate with the choir at Star of the Sea Mission.
Dynamics and Responsibilities:
1. Currently using the St. Michael Hymnal and Lumen Christi Missals.
2. We sing the Entrance, Offertory, and Communion antiphons in
Latin.
3. Same repertoire for both parishes but only one rehearsal per
week.
4. Select and coordinate music for all liturgical celebrations,
including regular Sunday Masses, Holy Days, and special events,
like funerals and weddings.
5. Recruit, hire, train, and lead both volunteer vocal musicians, as
well as integrating paid section leaders into the ensembles.
Recruit, hire, and supervise accompanists.
6. Currently using the Graduale Simplex. Goal of introducing the
English Propers over the Graduale Simplex. Perhaps developing
the ability to have the Gregorian Propers for one of the Masses.
7. Familiarity with Gregorian and English chant resources and
performance.
8. Familiarity with the Missal Chants of the Third Edition of the
Roman Missal, the GIRM, and current documents related to
Sacred Music.
9. Proficient in choral conducting; experience or education in
training choir. Ability to conduct choir while playing piano or
organ.
10. Ability to arrange music for the needs of the choirs and
instrumentalist when needed.
11. Proficient in organ (hymnody, solo repertoire, and improvisation
within the liturgy when needed).
