Job Description

Director of Planned Giving
Catholic Foundation of Maine | Portland, Maine
Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week | Salaried

The Catholic Foundation of Maine, a trusted steward of legacy gifts that support parishes, schools, vocations, and ministries throughout the state, is seeking a mission-driven and relationship-oriented Director of Planned Giving. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a seasoned development professional to help generous Catholics leave a lasting legacy that advances the Church's mission for generations to come.

Based in Portland with statewide travel as needed, the Director of Planned Giving will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serve as a key member of the Foundation's development team. The individual in this role will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors interested in making planned gifts, including bequests, charitable trusts, life insurance policies, and donor-advised funds. The Director will also build relationships with financial advisors, estate planners, and other professionals to expand awareness and understanding of Catholic planned giving opportunities.

The right candidate will bring deep knowledge of estate and charitable gift planning, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a sincere passion for serving the Church. As a representative of the Catholic Foundation of Maine, the Director will engage prospective donors with integrity, expertise, and a commitment to Gospel values.

Key Responsibilities Include:
1. Developing and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned giving prospects.

2. Building and managing a portfolio of current and prospective donors, ensuring timely follow-up and long-term relationship stewardship.

3. Educating donors on planned giving opportunities, including the tax and estate planning advantages of making charitable gifts.

4. Partnering with financial advisors, attorneys, and community stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of legacy giving.

5. Organizing seminars and events to promote planned giving and strengthen donor engagement.

6. Collaborating with the Foundation's development team to integrate legacy giving into broader fundraising strategies.

7. Staying current on tax laws, estate planning regulations, and industry best practices in charitable gift planning.

8. Preparing regular reports for leadership and the board of trustees on planned giving activity.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in fundraising, estate planning, or financial advising, with a proven record of securing planned gifts. A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree or certification in planned giving or related fields is preferred. Candidates must be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church and should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong ethical standards, and a sincere desire to advance the mission of the Catholic Church in Maine. Proficiency with donor databases and Microsoft Office is expected.

This is a full-time, salaried position based in the Foundation's Portland office, with some remote flexibility and travel throughout the state. Physical requirements include the ability to travel regularly, work at a computer for several hours a day, and communicate effectively in person and in writing.
