Job Description
Purpose of Position:To develop ministry opportunities, provide training, support and resources in the diocese for youth ministry in the following manner:
• A support and mentorship to the parishes and schools' youth ministry program(s).
• Acts as the diocesan coordinator for multiple parish and school events that includes participation in national events.
• Promotes Bring positive energy and self-motivation in providing organizational guidance and support regarding the Catholic Faith as taught by the Magisterium to the parishes and schools throughout the diocese.
• This position includes relating and working in collaboration with pastors, lay ministers, youth and young adults throughout the diocese.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. For parishes and schools:
• Promotes a comprehensive approach to youth ministry in the diocese, utilizing the USCCB document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Youth Ministry. Has familiarity with the Directory for Catechesis, and the National Catechetical Directory.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with pastors and lay parish ministers.
• Serves as a resource for parishes in the recruitment and selection of parish youth leaders.
• Maintains compliance with Diocesan Safe Environment Policies and assists parishes with maintaining compliance with the policies.
• Developments and oversees a diocesan youth advisory team.
• Provides training, support, and resources in youth ministry for pastors, parish youth ministers, and other volunteers.
• Is willing and able to travel to assist parishes in evaluating ministry programs, setting visions and implementing viable youth, young adult, and family ministry according to the needs of people throughout the diocese.
• Provides for youth ministry training, educational, and formational opportunities.
• Participates in meetings and works collaboratively with councils, commissions, organizations, pastors and parish staff and volunteers.
• Accepts speaking invitations within the diocese as appropriate.
2. With the Diocese:
• Fosters collaborative, positive working relationships with parishes, diocesan departments and diocesan staff.
• Coordinates with other diocesan offices to promote youth ministry, events opportunities, and vocations awareness.
• Assists the Office of Vocations in promoting programs such as the National Vocations Awareness Week, World Day of Prayer for Vocations, and World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life, discernment retreats, etc.
• Collaborates with the Office of Vocations in providing a relational ministry outreach program for youth.
• Oversees the planning and coordination of diocesan, regional, national and international youth events for diocesan youth.
• Maintains active membership in national and regional youth ministry organizations in order to monitor national trends in ministry.
• Works with the diocesan communications staff to supply content for printed materials and social media (ie. Website, Facebook, etc. ) regarding youth ministry.
• Assists the Director of Faith Formation in supporting assigned areas of evangelization as needed.
• Assists the Director of Faith Formation with the department's annual budget, provides expense reporting, and monitor expenditures.
• Creates and maintains budgets for diocesan youth ministry events.
• Assists in the promotion of St. Thomas Summer Camp.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
1. Minimum Requirements:
• A Bachelor's Degree is required. It is preferred the degree be in Theology or Catechesis is preferred. (Consideration may be given to other degrees such as Philosophy, Religious Studies, K-12 Education, or General Religious Curriculum.)
• Valid Montana Drivers License.
• Safe Environment Background Check & Training, to include the Drive Safe program, completed: https://greatfalls.cmgconnect.org and on an ongoing basis as required.
An active practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
2. Desired Requirements:
• 3-5 years' experience in Youth Ministry or youth related ministry work within the Catholic Church.
Work Environment:
• The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
• This position functions in both an office environment and in parish and event settings with many interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to heavy/loud.
• Travel is required throughout the Diocese for events, training, and meetings and can include evening, overnight, and weekend work.
Other Considerations:
• The incumbent can expect an evaluation in the first six months of employment by the Director of Faith Formation, with an annual evaluation thereafter.
• Salary considerations will be commensurate with education and experience.
