ARCHDIOCESE OF INDIANAPOLIS
MINISTRY POSITION DESCRIPTION
I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
Position Title: Coordinator of Youth Ministry
Location: Catholic Center, Indianapolis
Hours: 4-Day Work Week (Monday-Thursday)
Status: Full Time
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Director of Youth Ministry

II. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Coordinator of Youth Ministry reflects and executes the vision of the Office of Youth Ministry, working in collaboration with the Director of Youth Ministry, ensuring support and continuity throughout the Archdiocese. This position provides leadership in large scale youth events, ensuring involvement across the Archdiocese. The person in this role provides support to parishes and communities, empowering youth to live as disciples of Jesus, and reflecting and promoting a comprehensive approach to youth ministry. This position represents and advocates for youth and youth ministry leaders throughout the Archdiocese and beyond.

III. POSITION CONTENT
a. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Maintain an active prayer life and regular participation in the Sacraments

2. Vision:
a. Understand and support the vision of the Office of Youth Ministry, collaborating with the Director as needed to refine the vision.
b. Engage in evaluation of present and future programming in collaboration with the Director.
c. Ensure activities and programs managed by Coordinator are in alignment with this vision.
d. Strategize ways to expand ability to form and train youth ministers and provide direct ministry to youth, as an office, and within Coordinator responsibilities

3. Engage in direct relational ministry with youth ministers in the archdiocese, as decided within the Office of Youth Ministry
a. Regularly connect with youth ministers for check-ins about their ministries through small group and one-on-one meetings
b. Facilitate the initial connection of recently hired youth ministers to create and maintain a relationship between them and the Archdiocesan youth ministry office and provide support in their transition
c. Survey the challenges that are facing youth ministers and the youth at their parish(es) and evaluate how the youth ministry office can provide support

4. Plan, coordinate, execute and evaluate archdiocesan youth focused programs, promoting youth involvement across the archdiocese. These programs include, but are not limited to:
a. National Catholic Youth Conference
b. Ignite
c. Indiana Youth Rally for Life
d. World Youth Day events
e. Other youth programs as scheduled

5. Serve as the archdiocesan coordinator of the Archdiocesan Youth Council.
a. Serve as the liaison to the adult steering committee
b. Attend scheduled Archdiocesan Youth Council meetings
c. Assist in leadership formation of the council

6. Support Director to plan, implement and evaluate archdiocesan youth minister programming. These programs include, but are not limited to:
a. Catholic Youth Ministry Campference
b. Into the Heart
c. Embark
d. Formation and web-conferences
e. Other programs as scheduled

7. Support Department of Parish Leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate archdiocesan parish ministry leader programming. These programs include, bur are not limited to:
a. Days of Formation for Parish Leaders
b. New Parish Ministry Leader Orientation
c. Advent Day of Reflection
d. Other programs as scheduled

8. Communication: Create and distribute regular Flocknote email communication, promotional materials, and other publications. Maintain Youth Ministry website, Facebook page, Instagram, and other social media

9. Represent the Archdiocese at national, regional, and local gatherings for youth ministry

10. Communicate with other diocesan offices to fulfill the youth ministry office's mission and priorities.

11. Fulfill the duties of the office, including attendance at all team meetings, weekly one-on-one's with the Director, and monthly Department of Parish Leadership meetings

12. Other duties as necessary to ensure efficient functioning of the youth ministry office.

IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
a. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR ABILITIES
• Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings, particularly as they apply to youth and young adults
• Must be a professed and practicing Catholic
• Willingness to foster the Church's mission
• Ability to work with middle school and high school youth and knowledge of developmentally appropriate needs
• Outstanding project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
• Flexibility and adaptability to work well with others and in a team environment
• Ability to demonstrate leadership in a group environment
• Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail
• Well-developed verbal and written communications skills
• Proficient in Microsoft applications
• Computer technology and social media knowledge and skills

b. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Theology or a related field is preferred
• At least 2 years of paid or volunteer experience in youth ministry
• Is a practicing and faithful Catholic in good standing, with a theological and ministerial perspective consistent with current Church documents
• Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
• Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training
• Background screening required

V. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
• Frequent travel to parishes, schools, and for relationship-building meetings with youth ministry leaders
• May require evening and weekend work based on business need
• Provides own transportation and is reimbursed for travel according to the archdiocesan norms
• Must be able to maneuver equipment and ministry supplies through ministry settings, ensuring proper set-up for events
• Lay ministers are vital ministers sharing the mission of the Church. They are expected to be role models and are expressly charged with leading parishioners toward Christian maturity and with teaching the Word of God. As role models, the personal conduct of every lay minister, both at Church and away from Church, must convey and be supportive of the teachings of the Catholic Church. These teachings include, but are not limited to: honoring the dignity of each human life from conception to natural death, care for God's creation, and the belief that all persons are called to respect human sexuality and its expression in the Sacrament of Marriage as a sign of God's love and fidelity to His Church. • Determining whether a lay minister is conducting him/herself in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church is an internal Church matter and is at the sole discretion of the pastor, administrator, and/or Archbishop.
• The Archdiocese recognizes that some lay ministers who contribute positively to the mission of the Church are not practicing Catholics. For lay ministers of other faith traditions, there remains an expectation that, regardless of their personal religious affiliations and beliefs, they will become knowledgeable of Catholic Church teachings, will be credible witnesses of the Catholic faith, and will be models of Christian values.
