POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Faith Formation is an important leader in the Good Shepherd community, nurturing faith and spiritual growth by creating opportunities for Catholics of all ages to deepen their understanding of and relationship with God. They work closely with the Pastor to advance the parish mission. This person is a strong Catholic with a deep commitment to living their faith and serving others. The Director has a thorough understanding of the Mission and Tradition of the Catholic Church and they ensure that solid catechetical programs are offered to families, youth, children, and adults who are seeking formation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Faith formation curriculum and program management - 60% of time
Sacramental preparation - 30% of time
Sacramental record maintenance - 10% of time
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Faith formation curriculum and program management
• Select curriculum for children's faith formation, grades 1-5
• Ensure communication with families and the parish community through emails, handbooks, and weekly bulletins
• Create faith formation opportunities for adults and youth
• Organize scheduling, registrations, attendance sheets, and other logistics requirements for the programs
• Regularly assess the effectiveness of catechetical programs and materials
• Recruit, interview, and train catechists and volunteers for all faith formation programs
• Maintain appropriate required paperwork for catechists and volunteers
• Manage an annual budget for programming with the parish Business Manager
• Other duties, as assigned by the Pastor
Sacramental preparation
• Coordinate sacramental preparation for Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, and Reconciliation for both parish families and students at Good Shepherd Catholic School
• Direct the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), including scheduling, teaching, and volunteer coordination, in collaboration with the pastor
• Assist in the planning and celebration of all liturgies related to the sacraments of initiation
Sacramental record maintenance
• Maintain compliance with canonical standards of record keeping
• Manage creation of records of sacraments of initiation received at Good Shepherd Parish
• Maintain sacramental records with informational notices from other parishes about sacraments received
• Respond to requests for sacramental information
COMPETENCIES:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate:

• A self-starter attitude and ability to enthusiastically motivate people
• Ability to teach all age levels
• Great communication and interpersonal skills
• Intermediate level of IT literacy, with a willingness to learn new technologies
• Attention to detail and organization, especially in record keeping
• Strong teamwork skills
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
• Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
• 3 years' experience working in a parish or equivalent setting
• 2 years' experience as a teacher, trainer, or equivalent
• Experience creating engaging programming
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Preferred
• Master's degree in theology or equivalent from a faithful Catholic institution (highly desired)
• Personnel management or volunteer management experience
