Job Description
Job Title: Monsignor Scanlan High School CounselorPosition Summary:
Monsignor Scanlan High School is seeking a compassionate High School Counselor to support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being, as well as their college and career development. Grade level counseling assignments will be determined based on departmental structure and student needs. Flexibility, a growth-mindset, and a team-oriented approach are essential for this role.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Provide individual counseling to support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being.
Conduct classroom guidance lessons for students in grades 9-12 to support and assist them in their academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
Provide postsecondary counseling to support students in exploring different pathways including college, trade school, military branches, and the workforce.
Develop and maintain partnerships with colleges, trade schools, military branches, and employers.
Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with school policies and ethical guidelines.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success.
Assess students' needs and make referrals to appropriate school personnel, social agencies, and community agencies.
Assist students in high school course selection. For example, adding and dropping classes.
Assist with Guidance Department events such as College Information Night, Financial Aid Night, College Fair, and Career Day.
Assist with school-wide testing such as the PSAT/NMSQT, and AP exams.
Developing a plan for each student to meet graduation requirements.
Monitor students' academic progress.
Assist students in setting academic and career goals.
Participate in school school-wide events.
Adhere to the ethical standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
Stay up to date on counseling policies and best practices.
