Job Description

Director of Ministry
Purpose
Promotes the culture, mission and values of the Maria Stein Shrine. Coordinates the development and delivery of programs/activities consistent with Precious Blood spirituality and the mission of the Shrine. Ensures that competent, proficient & knowledgeable volunteers are available to assist with the Shrine's ministries as related to programs, tours, pilgrimages and hospitality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinates the development and planning for programs, tours and pilgrimages consistent with the mission of the Shrine.
• Fosters a spirit of welcome, warmth & hospitality to staff, volunteers, visitors and benefactors.
• Supervises the Ministry Coordinators.
• Manages the events calendar and coordinates staff and/or volunteer assignments for programs.
• Trains, recruits and coordinates guides for tours & pilgrimages. Establishes and maintains training materials for the same.
• Provides orientation of and helps all volunteers develop a positive working relationship by building a foundational knowledge about the Shrine's mission, objectives, policies, organization, structure and functions.
• Responsible for delivery of tours of the chapels, museum and grounds.
• Procures, organizes and maintains relics following the prescriptions of Canon Law. Maintains & catalogues data for the Relic Chapel.
• Manages museum displays & artifacts.
• Maintains the archives of the Maria Stein Shrine.
• Performs other duties as directed by the Executive Director.

Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) required (Master's Degree preferred) in Catholic theology; or pastoral studies from a four-year college or university plus two years related experience and/or training.
Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church.

Must have experience coordinating volunteers. Must have experience coordinating events or programs.

Language Skills - Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions for managers, staff, volunteers and visitors.

Operations Knowledge - Understands all Shrine operations and works to achieve results across departments and functions. Understands the impact of any recommendations given.

Teamwork - Able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; Balances team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests; Supports everyone's efforts to succeed.

Computer Skills - Is able to use Shrine software programs effectively for his/her position. Accepts and applies technology changes that affect his/her position.

Other - Must have strong interpersonal relation skills such as good listening skills, flexibility and be able to deal tactfully with visitors, personnel, volunteers and the general public. Must have good organizational ability. Must be emotionally and spiritually mature possessing a strong spiritual life and a sense of boundaries.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment in making independent decisions with a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Must be open to and seek new opportunities for developing new avenues of hospitality environment for visitors and volunteers.

Scope of Position
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: Minimum 40 per week.
Status: Full time, non-exempt
