POSITION DESCRIPTIONPosition Title: Parish Catechetical Leader
Department: Faith Formation
Reports To: Pastor
Classification: Exempt Full Time
SALARY: $40,000 negotiable depending on experience

General Description:
Parish Catechetical Leader (PCL) serves the parish in a leadership role coordinating catechetical activity. The person will be responsible for the parish Faith Formation program for students and parents, and coordinate the Sacramental Preparation. They will also work with our Youth minister in programs for youth and confirmation candidates. Finally they will help facilitate the involvement of the children and parents in parish activities and programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Directing Lifelong Faith Formation program for grades k - 9, and their parents.
2. Directing Sacramental Preparation for Order of Christian Initiation for Children, First Reconciliation and Communion, Confirmation and related activities.
3. Coordinating the retreat for Confirmation candidates with the youth minister.
4. Recruiting and forming volunteer catechists to run the programs.
5. Working with various committees in the parish to involve the families in faith formation in parish activities and events.
6. Looking for opportunities of growth and formation for youth, young adults and adults in the parish.
7. Responsible for compliance with the Archdiocesan requirements in PGC, and Parish Lifelong Formation.
Expectations and Evaluation
• The PCL is expected to attend Archdiocesan meetings and professional development opportunities for Parish Catechetical Leaders.
• The PCL is expected to be a person of faith and give witness to the faith by the life she or he lives. The PCL will take time to develop her/his own prayer life. She/he will continue to develop needed skills (catechetical, theological, administrative, etc.) by enrolling in and attending seminars and workshops designed for professional development.
• The PCL is encouraged to participate in other archdiocesan meetings, conferences, and events sponsored by the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation or other offices of the Archdiocese as the job description warrants.
• The PCL will abide by the "Archdiocese of Newark's Policies on Professional and Ministerial Conduct".
• The PCLs performance will be evaluated by the pastor at least once a year. The evaluation should be based upon the PCL's execution of the tasks and duties stated above.
Qualifications/Skills
• Proficiency in office software - email, MSOffice, Canva, Outlook, Calendar.
• Organization and communication skills.
• Practicing Catholic, with knowledge of the Catholic Church's structure and terminology.
• A positive referral from a Pastor who knows the applicant personally.
• Presentation and training skills Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Digital literacy in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, teleconferencing and other digital tools employed in catechetical ministry is required.
• Must have a valid Driver's License and own transportation
Education and/or Experience (Preferred)
• Any degree in theology or education preferred.
• Experience as PCL or at least a catechist.
• Knowledge of Catholic Teachings and Catechism is a must.
