Job Description
Holy Redeemer by the Sea is embarking on a new initiative to renew our ministry to middle and high-school aged youth. Our goal is to collaborate with the Office of Evangelization and Discipleship of the Diocese of Raleigh to implement Bishop Luis' vision of an integrated approach to youth ministry and confirmation preparation. This position requires a candidate with a heart for evangelization of youth, relational ministry and excellent conversion-oriented ministry. The successful candidate will be devout, creative, adventurous with a willingness to explore new ways of ministry in close collaboration with diocesan consultants(s).Specific responsibilities include:
- Yearly recruitment and training of youth ministry volunteers for a diversity of roles within the program including hospitality, small group leadership, discipleship opportunities, retreats, etc.
- Year-round discipleship of volunteers including intentional accompaniment through one-on-one interactions, provision of spiritually enriching opportunities and formation for ministry.
- Work closely with the diocesan faith formation team to ensure implementation of the bishop's vision for youth ministry and confirmation.
- Collaborate with other Youth Ministers within the Diocese of Raleigh and more closely the Albemarle Deanery.
- Creation of a yearly youth ministry calendar including all youth ministry sessions, events and opportunities for all high school aged youth of the parish (9th through 12th grade) and middle school aged youth (7th and 8th grade).
- Communicate the vision effectively to the parish members through parent meetings, information sessions, correspondence and collaboration with staff members, and parish council.
- Collaborate with the Liturgical Coordinator to provide opportunity for liturgical involvement of youth through participation in Mass as lectors, altar servers, ushers, or choir.
- Within the context of youth ministry, you will also provide opportunities for sacramental preparation of middle and high school aged youth as needed. This can include preparation for first reconciliation, first holy communion, confirmation and baptism.
- Provide at least one conversion-based retreat for high-school aged youth.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to function as a 'Level C' Safe Environment supervisor which includes passing a background check
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
- Effective communicator both in person and through correspondence
- Strong interpersonal skills to connect authentically with middle and high school students
- Associate's degree at a minimum
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of leadership in youth ministry
- Some formal formation or certification in youth ministry
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed
- Excellent administrative skills for record-keeping
- Proficiency in English and Spanish to lead youth group activities, facilitate discussions, and conduct outreach within a diverse parish community
