Music Director

Job Description

The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More seeks a full-time Music Director. The Director will work as part of the parish team to oversee all aspects of liturgical music in the parish and will manage the Schola Cantorum and the Hand Bell Choirs and work with the Assistant Music Directors to support their music programs.

The Music Director is responsible for developing liturgical music for all Masses in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Hispanic Music Ministry and the Director of the Celebration Singers, including direct participation in Holy Days, special liturgical celebrations, weddings and funerals. The Director recruits cantors, substitute accompanists, choir members and supervises the music library with the assistance of volunteers.

The position requires musical proficiency in piano and voice as well as a thorough knowledge of Church liturgical guidelines and norms. The Director must be able to work with many forms of music including contemporary, praise and worship, traditional and age-appropriate music for children.

All candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Faith, demonstrate a passion for and love of liturgical music, possess strong organizational and communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office.
