Job Description

Summary: The Assistant Director of Education provides leadership in curriculum development for Catholic Schools and planning, development and implementation of parish faith formation programs. With the leadership of the Director of Education, the Assistant Director of Education is responsible for the tasks and responsibilities noted in this job description,

Curriculum and Assessment:
• Assure the full implementation of New York State Learning Standards.
• Assist principals in sustaining the Catholic identity of the schools through the integration of the Catholic world-view throughout the curriculum.
• Direct standardized and NYS assessment programs.
• Review curriculum, instructional practices, assessment procedures, and technology and offer guidelines and directives for their improvement.
• Assure maximum participation of diocesan schools in the benefits of all federal and state funded programs and represent the Department of Catholic Schools in dealing with state and federal agencies.
• Coordinate the use and distribution of Title II A Funds.
• Participate in the Diocesan Curriculum Committee.
• Plan/implement diocesan-wide professional development conferences.
• Coordinate new teacher orientation and mentoring program.
• Give direction to the integration of technology into the curriculum and school management.
• Coordinate the correction of state tests and the storing of state test results with NERIC Testing and NERIC Data Warehouse.
• Analyze and maintain NYS testing grades 3-12 records by school and diocese as compared to local districts and state.
• Gives direction to primary testing and coordinate cognitive abilities testing.

School Visitation:
• Visits schools on a regular basis to assure that the instruction program is reflective of comprehensive planning, active differentiated strategies and formative and summative assessment and verify that appropriate administrative procedures are followed regarding the supervision/evaluation of teachers and the maintenance of school records.
• Provides written reports of all visits to the principal and pastor or Education Council President with copies to the Superintendent.

Communication:
• Establish contacts with State and BOCES offices regarding curriculum, instruction and assessment.
• Actively participates with the Inter-Diocesan Curriculum Committee.
• Collaborates with the fiscal office in the implementation of the e-rate program.

Faith Formation:
• Oversee the implementation of the Knowing Jesus and His Message: A Tool for Parish Catechesis and the Family Catechesis of the Seven Sacraments in parish* formation programs.
• Become familiar with parish* catechetical programs to offer service, guidance, resources, etc. about program design and implementation, staffing, etc. to pastors and faith formation leaders.
• Oversee the Growth in Faith Certification program in Catholic schools and parishes*.
• Facilitate Catechetical Institute/Franciscan University workshops for Catholic school principals and teachers and Catechetical Leaders and catechists.
• Collaborate with Diocesan Faith Formation personnel in planning and implementing training for OCIA coordinators, catechetical leaders, adult faith formation leaders and youth ministers.
• Assist in planning and implementing of Regional and Diocesan LEAD events.

Qualifications:
• Practicing Catholic
• Master's degree in Education or School Administration
• Experience as a school administrator
• Proven record of interpersonal skills
• Competency in the use of technology
