Senior Communications Manager Job PostingPosition Overview
Catholic Mobilizing Network (CMN) seeks an enthusiastic, skilled self-starter to serve as Senior Communications Manager directing and supervising the organization's communication portfolio. The Senior Communications Manager drives the development and implementation of all aspects of CMN's strategic communications initiatives and includes hands-on content creation and outreach. This position is benefited by existing familiarity with engaging Catholic audiences, as well as a commitment to criminal legal reform and racial justice.
This position is full-time, exempt based in main CMN headquarters located in Washington, D.C. and may require occasional travel. There may be minimal flexibility to work offsite. The Senior
Communications Manager is supervised by the Executive Director and is responsible for the supervision of the Digital Communications Associate.
Responsibilities:
Communications Planning & Messaging
-Develop and implement an annual communications plan that aligns with the organization's mission and advocacy goals.
-Manage and pace CMN's robust content calendar.
-Oversee the integration of CMN's communications strategy throughout all external messages and deliveries.
-Imagine creative ways to utilize CMN's powerful database to facilitate communication with supporters in a timely, targeted, and effective manner.
-Ensure consistency and integrity in CMN's tone, brand, voice, and key messages throughout all organizational communications.
-Collaborate closely with Director of Development to formulate annual print and digital fundraising campaigns, Impact Reports and other advancement initiatives
-Serve as primary copy editor for all CMN's external communications.
Content Development
Digital
-EMAIL: Manage the strategic delivery of email marketing communications - working with support from the Digital Communications Associate to maintain a robust calendar
of e-blasts.
-SOCIAL: Plan the direction of content creation and curation for social media channels, working closely with the Digital Communications Associate to create and maintain a quarterly social media content calendar. Oversee Digital Communications Associate's
production of assets for social media.
-WEB: Oversee CMN's maintenance and new initiatives with web developers. Guide projects to ensure CMN's website is attractive, accurate, timely, and effectively representing the organization and its current work.
-Consider and implement developments that will improve the site.
Traditional Media
-Serve as the first and primary point of contact with secular and religious media outlets.
-Draft and disseminate news releases, press statements, media pitches, interview talking points, and other pieces as needed.
-Manage CMN's press list and build/maintain collegial working relationships with key religious and secular journalists, media outlets, and communications contacts.
-Stay up-to-date on current death penalty and restorative justice news and messaging.
-Collaborate with contracted writers or byline guests for special projects.
Ongoing Organizational Projects
-Support organizational programmatic and administrative efforts in education, advocacy, and fundraising by collaborating with necessary staff to develop impactful resources, online actions, and campaigns - both in print and digital formats.
-Interface with and oversee contracted graphic designer for all design projects.
-Lead the outline and development of print newsletters three times per year.
Organizational Growth & Expansion Projects
-Support the architecture development of conference and special event platforms.
-Implement other timely "special communications projects" that elevate the organization.
Monitoring & Evaluation
-Facilitate quarterly content brainstorming sessions with staff.
-Measure and evaluate monthly analytics on website, email, and social media.
-Make informed decisions for communications strategy that is rooted in this data.
-Monitor and evaluate all earned media and other press coverage.
Administrative Support
-Supervise and manage CMN's Digital Communications Associate.
-Maintain excellent working relationships with third party contractors, vendors, including graphic designers, web developers, printers, etc.
-Support the development of grant applications and reports with analysis, data support, and copyediting when needed.
-Participate in the regular meetings with the EveryAction working group. Assist in building strategy to improve the organization's use of the EveryAction platform and enhance my own use.
-Outsource and review of graphic design projects to ensure adherence to CMN's brand guidelines.
-Collaborate with the Director of Administration to maintain CMN's inventory of hard-copy resources, marketing materials, stationary, etc.
-Support CMN's presence at national conferences and related events.
Participate in weekly staff meetings, directors' meetings, supervisor check-ins, departmental check-ins, organizational planning, retreats, and staff trainings as needed.
-Other administrative functions and projects as assigned.
Experience
-3-5 years direct experience in communications, with an emphasis on content creation and/or digital organizing or relevant work experience
-Impeccable copywriting, copy editing abilities and top-notch writing skills
-Experience writing press releases and press statements, responding to media requests
-Understanding of Catholic theology and Catholic Social Teaching, a strong plus
-Excellent project management skills, including ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment
-Comfort working with Church hierarchy
- Demonstrated proficiency with wide variety of communications technologies
-Tech savvy and familiar with databases and new technology
Familiarity with graphic design programs, CRMs, email marketing platforms, website design (HTML, CSS), and video editing - specifically, Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Rush and/or
Premiere Pro.
-Graphic design experience desirable
-Experience with messaging to diverse audiences and constituencies
-Comfort working independently, and an appreciation for a collaborative work environment
-Commitment to the mission and guiding principles of Catholic Mobilizing Network, including a commitment to racial equity.
-Bachelor's degree preferred
Salary and Benefits
-The starting salary range is $65,000-$75,000 based on experience
