Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE: This full-time position fosters the faith development of the parish community and provides support and leadership for the faith formation team.DIMENSIONS: St. Michael Parish & School has approximately 2,600 registered families and 7,000 individuals, serving two worship sites in Olympia, Washington.
NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week, 12 months a year.
1. The incumbent is a missionary disciple and shares in the missionary work of the parish. The incumbent is responsible for promoting the growth of the six elements of discipleship (GROW, WORSHIP, SERVE, GIVE, CONNECT, SHARE) within their areas of ministries and in those they serve. The incumbent is responsible for aligning the Faith Formation ministries' goals with the parish vision and strategic plan and serves as the main champion for initiatives focused on the element GROW.
2. Oversee and supervise the Faith Formation Staff, which consists of the Steward for Children's Ministries, the Steward for Edge, Steward for Life Teen, Steward for High School Confirmation, and the Steward for Sacramental Prep and CGS, This supervision includes:
- Weekly Team Meetings
- Monthly check-ins with team members on an individual basis (10/year)
- Yearly ministry review with each steward for planning and evaluation purposes
- Plan and implement an annual Faith Formation Team retreat with the Pastor
- Reviewing and approving budget request
- Assures the proper evaluation of all faith formation volunteers.
3. Ensure that the curriculum for all Faith Formation programs at the parish is based on Catholic teaching and follows the standards of the Seattle Archdiocese.
4. Acts as Staff Liaison to the Faith Formation Commission. Schedules ten monthly meetings each year, assures the meetings are facilitated and further develops the skills of members. Attends leadership discernment opportunities and leadership day.
5. Acts as a liaison of Faith Formation Team to other planning groups. Leads the faith formation teams meetings and ongoing professional development of team members.
6. Supervises and manages our childcare staff and ministries.
7. Parent Faith Formation Opportunities - Ensure faith formation opportunities for parents in our parish.
8. Liturgy of the Word with Children - Organizes, trains, and schedules volunteers for this ministry.
9. Prepares bulletin & pulpit announcements, website materials, intercessions and correspondence for Faith Formation Events, FAITH and other ministries outlined above.
10. Coordinate annual calendar for Faith Formation Team. Works with staff to assure all Faith Formation events are on the Parish Facilities calendar in a timely manner.
11. Maintains inventory of educational supplies and re-orders as appropriate, including textbooks, audio-visual materials, general supplies and all other resources necessary to Faith and other ministries mentioned above.
12. In collaboration with the admin team, coordinates the screening and training of religious education volunteers in accordance with all Archdiocesan & Parish Safe Environment standards.
13. Maintains current level of Knowledge and skills required for this ministry and leadership role.
14. Assures budgets for Faith Formation are prepared and submitted in a timely fashion by working with ministry Stewards, the Pastoral Assistant for Administration and the Parish Bookkeeper. When the budgets are approved, assures the monthly monitoring of expenses and revenue; authorizes all expenditures for that budget.
