Job Description
Position Title: Major Gifts OfficerReports to: Vice President of Advancement and Strategic Communications
POSITION SUMMARY
The Major Gifts Officer plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Brophy College Preparatory by securing significant philanthropic support for institutional priorities and campaign initiatives. This role is responsible for achieving specific annual revenue targets and contributing to the overall success of the advancement team.
The Major Gifts Officer manages a portfolio of approximately 150 donors and prospects with giving capacity at the $100,000+ level. This role works collaboratively with the school president, board of trustees, and advancement team members to craft strategic giving opportunities that align donor passions with Brophy's highest priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prospect Identification and Cultivation
In collaboration with the prospect research team, identify potential major donors through research, networking, and leveraging existing relationships within the Brophy community including alumni, parents, and friends.
Qualify interest and giving potential through personal outreach and engagement.
Relationship Building
Develop and sustain strong relationships with major gift prospects through personalized communication, one-on-one meetings, and cultivation events.
Collaborate with school leaders, faculty, and advancement team to create meaningful donor experiences.
Gift Solicitation
Craft compelling proposals and make strategic asks in support of Brophy's programs, capital projects, and campaign priorities.
Partner with the president, advancement team, and board members to secure transformational gifts.
Donor Stewardship
Ensure donors feel valued through timely recognition, thoughtful stewardship, and ongoing communication about the impact of their giving.
Portfolio Management
Maintain and manage an active portfolio of approximately 150 major gift prospects.
Track giving history, communication preferences, and engagement strategies in the donor database.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all donor interactions and activity in the donor database (e.g., Raiser's Edge NXT).
Collaboration
Work closely with advancement colleagues, including annual giving, alumni relations, communications and events to coordinate outreach efforts and maximize donor engagement.
Support campaign planning, strategy development, and volunteer leadership efforts.
Event Participation
Represent the advancement team at fundraising and cultivation events.
Help plan and execute donor gatherings that strengthen relationships and inspire giving.
Fundraising Goal Achievement
Consistently meet or exceed fundraising targets and contribute to the overall advancement goals of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS
Passion for and ability to communicate Brophy's Jesuit mission.
Successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising, preferably in education.
Knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the school's mission and fundraising needs.
Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors to develop relationships between them and Brophy College Preparatory.
A dedication to promoting Brophy's fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, trustees, and the advancement team.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to analyze data and track fundraising progress.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Willing to travel as necessary.
Familiarity with Raiser's Edge is preferred.
A bachelor's degree is required.
