Job Description
The Director of Religious Education oversees parish programming in support of children and youth from birth thru high school graduation. This includes:• Classes/support for new parents/godparents,
• Religious education/faith formation/engagement for children/youth from 3 years of age thru high school graduation,
• Sacrament formation, inclusive of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation
• Parish programming in support/engagement of families
• Nursery care of younger children during Sunday morning Masses
• Children Choirs
• Direct supervisory responsibility for PSR Administrative Assistant(s), High School/Confirmation Youth Minister(s), Children's Choir Director, and Nursery Employees, as well as dotted line supervision of Middle School Youth Minister(s)
Primary Responsibilities:
• Directs the parish catechetical programs for infants through High School graduation (direct engagement of programming for young children thru 5th grade (PSR and VBS), and oversight of programs for Middle/High School)
• Ensures consistent programming approach to Religious Ed programming for both the Anglo and Hispanic communities.
• Establishes long range/short team goals for effective catechesis
• Selection/evaluation of appropriate catechetical materials
• Develops Sacrament preparation and oversight for parents and children/youth (Baptism Preparation Classes, Reconciliation Parent Meetings/programming, Eucharist Parent Meetings/programming, and Sacrament Catch-up programming)
• Maintains open and regular communication with parents and volunteers.
• Ensures compliance with the policies of the Archdiocese/USCCB for catechesis
• Prepares and presents Large Group Presentations for parents, students, and catechists/volunteers. Able to step in and teach student classes when needed.
• Prepares and provides necessary program structures including Policies and Procedures
• Ensures Archdiocese Safe Environment compliance of all Religious Education program volunteers, student participation in annual required Safe Environment Training, and Parish offering of Adult Safe Environment Training (via parish and staff facilitators).
• Recruits/hires/trains new employees to support Religious Education programming.
• Supervises the operation of the Sunday morning nursery and personnel
• Recruits and screens candidates for role of Catechists and program volunteers. Supervises volunteers and provides training and ongoing spiritual formation as needed.
• Ensures resources/materials/curriculum are available for catechists/volunteers with teaching aides/lesson planning/schedules to support programming.
• Collaborates/supports parish/CKS staff and other committees/ministries that involve children (Young Families Ministry, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts)
• Works collaboratively with Staff on communications, calendaring, and scheduling of space
• Networks with other catechetical leaders and the Archdiocese office of Evangelization and Discipleship inclusive of Deanery and Archdiocese relevant meetings
• Assists in planning of liturgical celebrations in the parish that involve children/youth (Sacrament celebrations, Christmas Eve pageants, Blessing of Animals, Blessing of Baskets, Palm Sunday Procession, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper, and Baccalaureate Mass among others)
• Administrative responsibilities including:
o Maintain, update and use all relevant databases/parish tools, FlockNote, Raisers Edge, ESpace, Learning Stream, website, etc. in a timely manner.
o Prepares annual budget and oversees/tracks expenditures against budget
o Manage Event and Program registration, including management of registrations.
o Maintain necessary office and program records (rosters, student and volunteer participation, Raisers Edge, sacramental records, sacramental follow up with other churches, student records for sacrament and program participation.
o Attend required department meetings (Director, Faith Formation, and staff meetings) and others as needed
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Religious Studies, or comparable Leadership role/experience
• Experience in area of teaching and a working knowledge of the purpose of Religious Education
• Baptized, Confirmed and Active Member of the Roman Catholic Church
• Faithful to the Teachings of the Magisterium
• Strong computer skills, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, email platform and database management, and other systems that support efficient management of programming.
• Independent self-starter with excellent organizational and administrative skills
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Experience in supervising staff and/or volunteers
• Team work and collaboration
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, work independently and meet deadlines
• Clean driving record to allow for transportation of students when required

• Physical requirements, e.g., lifting, standing for long periods (Especially on Sundays)
