JOB DESCRIPTIONSummary/Objective:
Under the supervision of the Director of Parish Financial Services and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this position provides supervision and oversight for the accounting functions and financial reporting for multiple parishes within the Diocese of Madison. As part of Into the Deep initiative, the Diocese of Madison, Parish Financial Services, is establishing a Central Business Office to provide accounting and payroll services to all parishes and schools within the diocese. This Associate Director is responsible for the supervision and oversight of the staff accountants and senior accountants who are responsible for the day-to-day financial activities of the assigned parishes and schools.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist the Director of Parish Financial Services in the development and execution a Central Business Office, ensure that resources are efficiently utilized and established target dates are achieved.
Provide concrete recommendations and advice to enhance and improve the financial operations of the parishes.
Responsible for oversight of accounting functions for assigned parishes including:
Month and year-end processes
Supervision of the accounts payable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, and fixed asset and debt activity
Assist in preparing the annual budgets. Monitor actual monthly performance to the budget, keeping the Pastor and Council informed of the financial position
Produce cash forecasting as needed
Act as a liaison to finance council. Attend finance council meetings and meet with the pastor or business manager as needed
Analyze current and past financial data and prepare reports and projections based on analysis
Responsible for the preparation and coordination of the financial merger of each pastorate assigned
Assist Diocesan Office with training including presentations as necessary
Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles in the Parish Financial Services Department
Assure internal controls are followed and ongoing evaluation of effectiveness
Assist all fiscal auditors and coordinate auditing services and activities
Other related duties as assigned
Required Education & Competencies:
Minimum of a BS (preferably in Accounting or Finance); CPA and/or MBA highly preferred.
Minimum five or more years of senior accounting experience required; minimum two or more years management/supervisory experience preferred. Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fund accounting.
Competence in computer software (all Microsoft Office products, accounting packages, payroll systems and database programs).
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from priests, finance councils, parishioners and team members.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to collaborate effectively and joyfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all financial and personnel information
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations
Undertakes self-development activities, seeks increased responsibilities, displays original thinking
Reacts well under pressure and possesses excellent communication skills
General familiarity with all facets of corporate operations, including business, legal, facility and personnel management.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position is responsible for supervising assigned Senior Accountants and Staff Accountants.

Staff members in the Office of Parish Financial Services and Chancery at the Diocese of Madison
Parochial Administrators, Parochial Vicars, parish staff members, parish Finance Councils
Normal Work Days & Hours:
Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Travel Requirements:
Routine travel to assigned parishes
Must have a reliable means of transportation, proof of financial responsibility, must provide a copy of their valid Driver's license and proof of personal automobile insurance
