PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Staff Accountant is responsible for daily and monthly processing, banking, commercial credit card processing, and the close process. The Staff Accountant works with the Manager of Accounting to ensure the close process is on track including suggesting changes to improve the process, focuses on account reconciliations and analysis, journal entries, budget to actual analysis, and special projects; conducting the analysis with minimal guidance and working across functional areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepares monthly recurring journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts with clear and complete backup, providing analysis including cost center reporting communications, researching and resolving outstanding items, according to Department's published month end close checklist.
• Reconciles, approves, and records monthly commercial credit card activity ensuring adherance to our company credit card policy, verifying that all required documentation is submitted.
• Monitors daily banking, ensuring that only authorized transactions occur, approving or rejecting positive pay exceptions and unauthorized ACH transactions, reporting weekly and monthly activity to Management.
• Provides monthly cash flow activity and other documentation as needed.
• Supports requests for information related to the annual outside audit.
• Acts as a backup to the Cash/GL Accountant when necessary.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide backup support for managing sales tax through Avalara
• Assist AP/AR as needed
• Special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• Three to five years of accounting experience, general ledger account balancing and reconciling skills.
• Proven experience using independent judgment and initiative.
• Successful experience working in a professional environment, maintaining confidentiality and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Specialized skills should include strong accounting knowledge with keen attention to detail, specifically in regard to the general ledger and reconciliations.
• Good time management skills including prioritizing work, meeting deadlines and working efficiently.
• Self motivated with strong organizational and customer service skills.
• Willingness to take appropriate steps to solve problems and to present proposals to enhance current processes.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail.
• Contribute to OCP's organizational health by consistently exhibiting behaviors that exemplify OCP's Core Values of humility, empathy, and passion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Business Central knowledge a plus
• Payroll and Sales Tax experience
• Non-profit accounting experience
• Proven record of reliability and taking ownership in previous roles a big plus
• Ability to mentor less experienced colleagues when needed
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Estimated starting pay range between $62,600 - $67,200, depending on qualifications and experience.
