Job Description

Are you a mission-driven auditor with a passion for financial integrity and service to the Church? The Department for Financial and Parish Support Services is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Internal Auditor to design, implement, and lead a new internal audit program for parishes and diocesan entities. This vital role ensures financial accountability, evaluates internal controls, and provides critical training and advisory support, all while supporting the mission of the Church through responsible stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop the diocesan internal audit process in collaboration with the Finance Officer and Controller
• Implement audits, train internal finance staff, and establish a follow-up process for compliance
• Prepare detailed audit reports and recommendations for improvement
• Review and analyze budgets and financial reports from diocesan parishes and schools
• Provide ongoing training and support to finance staff, financial councils, business managers, and bookkeepers
• Assist with transitions from QuickBooks to Sage Intacct accounting software
• Stay current on accounting standards, laws, and diocesan policies
• Travel (up to 50%) to parishes and schools as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For
• A practicing Catholic in full communion with the teachings of the Church
• Bachelor's degree in accounting (CPA preferred)
• 5-10 years of experience in public or internal auditing
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
• High attention to accuracy, detail, and confidentiality
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word) and Outlook
• Experience with accounting software and ability to train others
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Willingness to travel frequently and occasionally work evenings or overnight
