Job Description

Job Title: Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation Catechists and Families

Reports to: Director of Religious Education
Supervises: Volunteers
Cooperates primarily with: Middle School and High School Youth Ministers; Director of Adult Faith Formation; Choir Director
Sunday through Thursday with frequent evenings

Duties and Responsibilities:

Know and pray for volunteers and families
Inspire volunteers: giving volunteers a way to see what they are doing in the context of all of Salvation History, and that what they are doing is important because the Holy Spirit is breathing into it
Equip volunteers for success in forming children in the faith
Care for the needs of the volunteers in practical and tangible ways
Recruit, train, build relationships with and support catechists and other volunteers through: spending relational time with them; trainings; retreats; materials and feedback; helping them to grow in their own faith and experience the joy of sharing the gift that is our life in Christ
Coordinate monthly catechist gatherings
Maintain clear and constant communication with volunteers, including regarding schedules, safe environment training, etc.
Cooperate intensively with the families of our children, re-proposing the Gospel to them and helping them to be the first and best catechists of their children. Find ways to help the family as a whole to encounter God in the Sacraments and live life as a family flowing from the Sacraments
Coordinate monthly elementary family gatherings
Work together collaboratively with the other members of the faith formation team, pursuing a shared vision of the life that God desires to share with us and the joy of the Gospel
Oversee faith formation programs for elementary school-aged children, helping children to experience the joy that comes from knowing the God who loves them and enabling them to interpret their experiences in the light of the Gospel
Coordinate weekly religious education classes for children in grades K-5 and help children and their families prepare for the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Eucharist
Coordinate with Ave Maria Catholic School teachers to assist students through sacramental preparation
Develop spiritually nourishing, engaging and fun activities during the summer and at other times to help children discover the joy and beauty of the Faith
Organize and record pertinent information for Sacramental Records

Requirements:

Love for God and His Church
Open to continued learning and formation in the life of God
Solid commitment to prayer, discipleship and cooperation, demonstrated by frequent reception of the Sacraments, adherence to Church teaching, participation in parish life and openness to working with others
Strong communication and organizational skills

Physical requirements:
Frequent communication with others, walking, standing, sitting, bending, operating standard office equipment, public speaking, and exposure to the noise of happy (and unhappy) children

They are expected to conduct themselves according to the teaching, goals and mission of the Church, modeling Christian virtues in every aspect of their lives. About the Employer

We are looking for someone in love with the Lord and His Church who is excited about working with Catechists of grades K-5, as well as the parents and children to build up the domestic church. This job consists primarily in building relationships with and supporting the catechists in our elementary faith formation programs, engaging with parents, choosing curricula for the elementary programs, cooperating with the school and lastly, having some interaction with the children in our programs. Ave Maria Catholic Parish comprises a Pre-K-8 school and nearly 3,000 registered families.
