Position Overview
Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, NJ, is seeking a dynamic, faith-filled, and dedicated Director of Youth Ministry to lead and develop our parish ministries for young people in grades 7-12, oversee our CYO Basketball Program for grades 3-12, and support opportunities for parish young adults.
The Director of Youth Ministry will provide vision, leadership, and pastoral oversight for the parish's Middle School and High School Ministries, creating opportunities for young people to encounter Jesus Christ, grow in their Catholic faith, develop as disciples, serve others, and build meaningful relationships within the parish community.
The Director will also help foster connections among the parish's young adults by organizing two Young Adult Ministry gatherings each year, in January and May, providing opportunities for fellowship, faith, community-building, and continued connection to the life of the parish.
Working collaboratively with the Pastor, Director of Faith Formation, parish staff, volunteers, parents, young people, and young adults, the Director will strengthen existing programs while developing opportunities that respond to the spiritual and relational needs of the parish community.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for parish youth ministry programs serving students in grades 7-12.
Oversee and develop Middle School and High School Ministry programs, including regular gatherings, faith formation, service opportunities, retreats, and special events.
Provide leadership and oversight for the parish CYO Basketball Program serving grades 3-12.
Coordinate Young Adult Ministry gatherings twice annually, in January and May, creating opportunities for fellowship, faith formation, community-building, and connection among young adults and with the parish.
Develop and maintain relationships with young adults and identify opportunities to encourage their participation in parish life and ministry.
Recruit, train, support, develop, and retain adult and teen volunteers.
Foster a welcoming, Christ-centered environment in which young people can grow in faith, friendship, service, and discipleship.
Develop strong relationships with youth, parents, families, and young adults and maintain consistent, effective communication regarding ministry programs and opportunities.
Ensure that all youth and young adult ministry programming is faithful to the teachings and mission of the Roman Catholic Church and consistent with the policies and guidelines of the Archdiocese of Newark.
Ensure compliance with all Archdiocesan Safe Environment policies and procedures.
Collaborate closely with the Pastor, Director of Faith Formation, parish staff, clergy, and leaders of other parish ministries.
Coordinate ministry calendars, facilities, volunteers, supplies, and event logistics.
Plan and manage the annual youth ministry budget and monitor expenditures throughout the year.
Participate in parish-wide events, initiatives, and activities that support the mission of the parish.
Attend required staff meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain accurate youth and volunteer records, including participation, applications, certificates, and required Safe Environment documentation.
Manage program and event attendance and maintain appropriate records.
Maintain and utilize parish databases, communication platforms, and ministry tools, including ParishSOFT, Doodlio, Flocknote, Canva, Squarespace, Zoom, Google Calendar, and SignUpGenius.
Coordinate ministry communications and promotional materials in collaboration with parish staff.
Prepare the annual ministry budget and track expenditures against approved budgets.
Maintain organized program files, calendars, rosters, and other ministry documentation.
Qualifications and Skills
Baptized, confirmed, and practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church with a strong personal commitment to the Catholic faith and the mission of the Church.
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, Youth Ministry, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience and/or relevant certification may also be considered.
Two to three years of experience in Catholic youth ministry, pastoral ministry, education, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of adolescent faith development and effective youth ministry practices.
Familiarity with Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, Listen, Teach, Send: A National Pastoral Framework for Ministries with Youth and Young Adults, and Sons and Daughters of the Light: A Pastoral Plan for Ministry with Young Adults.
Experience recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to build trusting relationships with young people, parents, families, volunteers, and parish staff.
Strong administrative, organizational, and project-management abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with databases, parish management systems, and digital communication platforms.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a collaborative parish team.
Work Schedule and Environment
This is a part-time position averaging 15 hours per week. Because youth ministry and parish events frequently take place outside of traditional business hours, evening and weekend
availability is regularly required. The position will include a combination of office, parish, program, event, and athletic activities.
The Director of Youth Ministry reports directly to the Pastor of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church.
