Job Description

The Montfort Academy, a nationally acclaimed, independent classical curriculum Catholic high school located in the Archdioceses of New York, is seeking a Literature teacher, with particular focus on the Great Books, from the ancient to the modern periods, with a particular emphasis on making the works of antiquity and mythology come alive. With total fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church, The Montfort Academy teaches the greatest works of Western Civilization and uses the Socratic Method to help her students become liberally educated and formed in virtue. An excellent candidate will be liberally educated in literature or the humanities at large, and adept at an interdisciplinary approach to literature that includes incorporation of history, scientific discoveries, art and theater, theology, philosophy, and much more. The successful candidate will know how to lead Socratic discussions and how to assign and grade meaningful writing assignments within the framework of The Montfort Academy's writing program. The successful candidate will also be faithful to the Magisterium of the Church and excited to begin to form young minds with the Socratic Method. The successful candidate will also be happy to work on a team of like-minded teachers who understand that we all help form the minds, bodies, and souls of our students. The successful candidate will view teaching as a vocation and not a job and will be willing to supervise at least one extracurricular activity. Previous high school teaching experience is particularly desirable, but more than experience is passion, humility, and devotion.
