Job SummaryThe Liturgy Coordinator supports the Director of Liturgy and Music to ensure that every celebration of the Mass and the sacraments lead people into a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ through reverent, prayerful, and well-coordinated liturgies. This role collaborates closely with the Pastor, clergy, Director of Music and Liturgy, staff, and volunteers to support the spiritual life of the parish.

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity at St. John Neumann, which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. John Neumann help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St John Neumann Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
• Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
• Prepare and coordinate all Liturgies (Daily/Weekend Masses, Confession Services, Confirmations, First Holy Communion, Special Liturgies and Solemnities)
• Plan Funerals including:
- Initial contact with family
- Coordinate and assist families in liturgy preparation including readings and family Involvement.
- Schedule date and time of service
- Coordinate Clergy/sacristan/altar server
- Collect readings, photos, obituaries, and information for Worship Aids
- Print Worship Aids
- Prepare binders with readings and Gospel for Services
- Assist Day of Service with Family
• Weekly Liturgy Department meetings with Liturgy team and Pastor
• Prepare presider notes and coordinate announcements for above liturgies
• Create and maintain liturgical volunteer schedules through Ministry Scheduler Pro
• Ensure that volunteers, materials, and supplies are properly prepared for all liturgical celebrations
• Recruit and train Liturgical Ministers (EMHC's, Lectors, Sacristans and Altar Servers)
• Order and maintain inventory of liturgical supplies
• Maintain altar cloths, linens and vestments
• Oversee Adoration Ministry
• Maintain compliance with the church and diocesan guidelines
• Collaborate with Communications before liturgical celebrations, to ensure bulletins, announcements, presider notes, and worship aides are accurate and ready
• Responsible for ensuring Homebound, Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Ministries are supported
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of columbarium niche inventory, including availability, ownership, and sales transactions, while meeting with families to guide them in selecting and purchasing niche(s) and ensuring all documentation is properly completed and organized
• Coordinate and place orders for altar flowers for special solemnities, including Christmas and Easter, ensuring arrangements are appropriate, timely, and aligned with liturgical needs
• Responsible for other duties as assigned by Pastor
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Undergraduate degree in Theology or a related subject is preferred, or 2 + years parish experience in Liturgy
• Thorough understanding of the rites, rubrics, and liturgical documents of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as their scriptural foundations
• Understands the connection between music, liturgy, and discipleship
• Willing to continue to learn and grow in knowledge and understanding of liturgy best practices
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and comfortable working in a collaborative environment
• Proven ability to effectively recruit, motivate, train, and supervise parishioners to engage in all areas of ministry supporting the worship life of the community
• Organized, task-oriented, and proficient in the use of scheduling software
• Experienced in creating worship aids for all liturgical ministers [clergy, lectors, acolytes, etc.]
• Familiarity with Office 365
• Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Special Requirements: This position requires in person work on Sundays, some evenings, and Holy Days (i.e., Christmas and Easter)
Working Conditions:
• All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
• The Parish is an at-will employer.
• Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
