Faith, Community, and Dominican Charism

Job Purpose:

The office of Campus Ministry is integral to the mission of St. Agnes Academy. In collaboration with the Director of Mission and Ministry and the Assoc. Directors of Campus Ministry, the Director of Campus Ministry is responsible for nurturing spirituality and creating ongoing opportunities for faith development of students with an intentional focus on service and living faith, building an inclusive environment for students who might not otherwise be engaged in their faith.

The main responsibilities will include:

Create the overall vision of the retreat program in collaboration with the Assoc Directors and oversee the planning and execution of retreats by the Assoc. Directors. Serve as the primary administrator on each retreat by responding to critical issues and overseeing high-level logistics.

In collaboration with the Assoc Directors, create the overall vision for the formation of the Dominican Preaching Team (peer ministry) and other leadership opportunities in campus ministry

Design and facilitate ongoing faith development opportunities throughout the year, focusing especially on discipleship and sustainable faith among all students, from the first moments of 9th grade, through their experience at St. Agnes.

Coordinate all aspects of campus liturgy including but not limited to, calendaring, communication with priests, selection of liturgical music, work orders, the set up ProPresenter, beautification of the mass space, and preparation for eucharist.

Plan, organize and attend student/parent faith events, in collaboration with the Director of Mission and Ministry, including but not limited to Father Daughter Mass/Brunch, Living Veritas: Mother/Daughter Evening of Reflection.

Educate the community on the elements of the Mass and ensure that both Catholic and non-Catholic students and faculty feel welcomed in the liturgy.

Plan and schedule department presentations for Freshman Seminar to introduce new students to the Campus Ministry Team and campus formation opportunities and retreats.

Recruit and organize campus ministry parent volunteers, in collaboration with the Director of Mission and Ministry. Maintain communication with parent volunteers throughout the year.

Send community prayers as requested by faculty/staff/administration.

Retreats, Conferences, and Mission Trips:

Retreats, conferences and mission trips are offered for our students and faculty to allow an opportunity to deepen one's faith and build community with one's peers. The Director of Campus Ministry attends and takes a leadership role in facilitating all retreats, and assists in ensuring a smooth, powerful experience and connecting ongoing programming to these experiences. This includes developing and supporting student peer ministers who are responsible for designing and facilitating retreats as well as conducting regular audits of retreats and mission trips to ensure their continued alignment with the mission and charism.

The Director of Campus Ministry also participates in conferences and mission trips necessary for the development of student leaders and success of the overall faith formation program.

Liturgy & Prayer: All liturgy and prayer at St. Agnes should have the goal of bringing students, faculty and staff to a deeper relationship with God. We should practice liturgy that recognizes the faith and gifts of the individual and of the community.
*All-School Masses: The Department of Campus Ministry facilitates celebrations for all Holy Days of Obligation, as well as major Dominican feasts and opportunities to celebrate the mission of St. Agnes. The Department works as a team to facilitate all aspects of these celebrations.

*Weekly Mass: The Department of Campus Ministry currently provides opportunities to celebrate Mass most Thursdays during Community Time. The Director of Campus Ministry attends all Daily Masses.

*Lent and Advent Prayer and Service: During the seasons of Lent and Advent, the Director of Campus Ministry coordinates and leads community prayer opportunities. Additionally, the Director organizes and oversees a school-wide Lenten Service Project while the Advent Service Project is generally planned in collaboration with the Director of Student Services.

*Daily Prayer on VTV: The whole school community prays together daily over the PA and on VTV every Tuesday. The Director of Campus Ministry ensures that prayers are reflective of mission and charism and are responsive to the signs of the times. The Director is responsible for helping set a prayerful tone on campus during this time of prayer.

Chapel:

The chapel serves as a physical symbol of our school's commitment to our faith. The Campus Ministry Department works together, guided by the Director of Mission and Ministry, to ensure that the Chapel remains a prayerful environment. The Director approves space usage requests for the Chapel.

Pastoral Ministry:

Students should see the Director of Campus Ministry as an advocate and a person whom they can turn to in times of need. The Director is a pastoral minister, first and foremost. The Director is responsible for cultivating a welcoming space for students in the Campus Ministry offices and area outside of the chapel.

Teaching Responsibilities:

The Director of Campus Ministry teaches two classes.

Administrative Duties:

1. Maintain excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, creating lists, keeping track of programming details and logistics throughout the year.

2. Oversee department budgets and manage the department credit card

3. Coordinating supplies, providing meals/snacks/hospitality for Campus Ministry events including retreats, meetings, liturgies, as needed

4. Plan and calendar events and programming, working with the Director of Mission and Ministry

5. Return phone calls and emails pertaining to the Department of Campus Ministry

6. Hold regular team meetings and individual meetings with the Associate Directors

7. Attend weekly Principal Team's meetings

8. Attend Calendar Meetings

9. Attend Mission and Ministry Department meetings

10. Participate in hiring interviews, as needed.

11. Manage the Associate Directors of Campus Ministry, including attendance tracking, leadership support and professional development approval

12. Support the Director of Mission and Ministry with any special projects as requested, including but not limited to building dedications or ground-breaking events, community funerals, and campus visits by special guests.

Personal and Professional Growth and Development:

1. Keep current on trends and developments in teenager development and spirituality.

2. Attend conferences that pertain to ministry and participate in Archdiocesan workshops that relate to the field.

3. Seek out "best practices" in the Houston area and nationally.

4. With the Director of Mission and Ministry, work to maintain and build relationships with parishes, schools, youth ministry programs and campus ministers

Requirements/Qualifications:
- Commitment to embracing the mission of St. Agnes Academy
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing
- BA in Theology, Pastoral Studies, or related field, MA is preferred; three-five years' relevant experience
- Must show a demonstrated competency in multicultural, ecumenical, and interfaith issues
- An ability to continue and advance the ecumenical and inter-religious understanding among students, faculty and staff on campus, and support all students in their own unique faith formation.
- An understanding of the spiritual/religious development stages for contemporary teenagers/young adults and the capacity to implement programs to meet these spiritual developmental aspirations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
- Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple, and occasionally simultaneous, deadlines and projects
- Excellent accuracy in completing project work
- Excellent judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy
- Highly organized and reliable with demonstrated success working in quick-paced, dynamic environment with many responsibilities, ability to act efficiently on last-minute projects
- Completion of Safe Haven training
- Completion of Diocesan Human Sexuality training

In this position, the employee will regularly perform duties that require prolonged standing and active movement throughout the campus and classroom. Responsibilities include instructing and supervising students; communicating in person, by phone, and electronically; working at a desk or computer workstation; using hands and arms for classroom and instructional tasks. Travel in buses and/or airplanes, pack/unpack/move retreat boxes, participate in games/activities, endurance/stamina for retreat walking, hiking, dancing and lifting a minimum of 25 lbs.
