Job Description
The Director of Missionary Discipleship reports to the Moderator of the Curia and oversees the Coordinator of Lifelong Faith Formation, Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministry, Coordinator of Hispanic/Latino Ministry, and Coordinator of Marriage and Family Life Ministry.The Director for Missionary Discipleship is co-responsible for advancing the Mission of the Diocese to form disciples who Seek First the Kingdom of God. The director will design lifelong faith formation processes to promote an understanding of discipleship throughout the parishes, schools and communities in the diocese.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as the Bishop's primary consultant in matters of pastoral theology and the New Evangelization
• Assists the Bishop in the Implementation of the New Evangelization
• Plans, coordinates, implements, supervises and evaluates the pastoral practices of the new evangelization in religious education, lifelong faith formation, catechetical formation and training, youth ministry, Hispanic ministry, and marriage and family life ministry, along with those who coordinate those initiatives
• Provides and develops diocesan-wide pastoral and catechetical formation through convocations, retreats, conferences and training as required
• Facilitate the formation of small Christian communities and equipping those communities to become stewards of the New Evangelization who are missionary disciples
• Collaborates with ministry coordinators and the Director of Finance in managing budget items
• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
• A mature, practicing Catholic in good standing, fully understand the Catholic Faith, be able to easily verbalize the Church's position on matters of faith and able to integrate Gospel values in all areas of work
• Speaks and acts in ways congruent with the Church's faith and beliefs and have a regular pattern of prayer
• Demonstrates unquestioned integrity and fair mindedness with a positive, service-oriented outlook
• Is an active member of a parish community of the Roman Catholic Church, for a minimum of 3 years
• Holds a master's degree in theology, religious education, pastoral ministry or a related field
• Minimum of five (5) years working within the Catholic Church, including but not limited to diocesan and parish levels.
• Has instructional competence, managerial and administrative ability, good human relational skills, able to maintain confidentiality and maintain the willingness and ability to cooperate
• Has excellent written and oral communication skills and the emotional stability to confront sometimes difficult issues and team members included in the role of supervisor, appropriate maturity and patience with conflicting points of view
• Must have the ability to use computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), etc.
