General Position Summary:
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is responsible for the leadership, design, and implementation of Youth Ministry programs and activities for 6th-12th grade students, as well as Young Adult Ministry programs for 18-35 year olds in the Parish. The primary goal of these ministries is to form disciples through catechesis, events, retreats, service, and relational ministry. The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry works directly with the Coordinator of Teen Faith Formation to ensure a wholistic approach to youth ministry. The ideal candidate should have extensive ministry experience, a heart for evangelization, a strong knowledge of Catholic teaching, and the ability to inspire others in their journey of faith.
Primary Responsibilities:
Foster a welcoming and inclusive culture within the Youth Ministry where young people feel known, loved, and challenged to grow in holiness.
Plan, coordinate, and lead weekly youth nights, incorporating prayer, catechesis, small groups, and social activities.
Develop and oversee a team of adult volunteers to assist with ministry programming.
Lead and disciple teens on the Peer Ministry leadership team.
Organize and facilitate retreats, conferences, service projects, and special events for teens.
Work closely with parents to encourage family involvement and discipleship in the home.
Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and volunteers through newsletters, social media, email, parish bulletins, etc.
Create and manage a Youth Ministry budget each year to be approved by the Pastor.
Assist the Faith Formation team as needed.
Supervision Given and/or Received:
Supervised by the Coordinator of Adult Formation
Supervises volunteer Core Team
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis and have flexibility in scheduling.
Occasional overnight stays for approved youth retreats and events.
Frequent walking, standing, and sitting.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
Education and Experience:
Active, practicing member of the Catholic Church in good standing.
Bachelor's degree in Theology/Catechetics/Religious Education or a related educational field required.
Ministry experience with OCIA, teen Confirmation, marriage ministry, youth ministry, campus discipleship, and retreat leadership preferred.
Familiarity with FOCUS, NET, Life Teen, or similar Catholic youth ministry models.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to engage, mentor, and form young people in their faith.
Ability to work with people of all ages.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Excellent computer skills and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment process, including background check, required.
Travel Requirements:
Some travel is required, approximately 5% of the time for meetings and off-site events.
