Job Description

The Multicultural Ministry Consultant will work in collaboration with other team members and the other offices
Position Summary:
The Multicultural Ministry Consultant supports the mission of the Secretariat for Evangelization and Discipleship by accompanying and resourcing culturally diverse communities across the Archdiocese. This position plays a vital role in building bridges among cultural communities and parishes, fostering mutual understanding, and encouraging full participation in the life and mission of the Church. The Consultant works collaboratively with pastors, lay leaders, and ministry teams to promote intercultural competency, leadership development, and faith formation rooted in Catholic identity and cultural richness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support the Director of Multicultural Ministry in implementing the Archdiocese's vision for multicultural ministry.
• Serve as a liaison to designated ethnic and cultural communities, listening to their pastoral needs and advocating for their full integration in the life of the local Church.
• Assist parishes in developing and sustaining ministries that serve multicultural and multilingual communities.
• Provide consultation, training, and support to parish leaders, ministry groups, and volunteers.
• Organize and coordinate events, workshops, and gatherings that celebrate cultural expressions of faith and promote intercultural dialogue and understanding.
• Collaborate with other departments within the Secretariat and Archdiocesan offices to ensure pastoral alignment and integrated outreach.
• Maintain accurate records, prepare timely reports, and contribute to ongoing evaluations and strategic planning efforts.
• Act as a liaison between the Archdiocese and multicultural communities, fostering communication and collaboration.
• Assist with the translation of Archdiocesan documents intended for broad distribution across cultural and linguistic groups.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and initiatives of the Multicultural Ministry.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Practicing Catholic in good standing with a deep commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church.
• A willingness to be a leader in the evangelization efforts of the Church, including being a witness to one's own relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Bachelor's degree required and preferred in theology, pastoral ministry, intercultural studies, or related fields.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in multicultural ministry, parish leadership, or diocesan-level ministry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn Archdiocesan
• Fluent in a second language-Portuguese strongly preferred or multilingual candidate (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, etc.) highly encouraged.
• Ability to communicate effectively through email and phone.
• Must possess strong communication skills - both oral and written
• Experience working with the public and handling issues/complaints in a diplomatic manner.
• Ability to anticipate needs, establish priorities, maintain confidentiality,
• Strong intercultural competency and sensitivity to diverse pastoral realities.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across cultural, linguistic, and generational lines.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership and presentation skills.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently as well as in a team setting.
• Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Boston.
Working Conditions and Requirements:
• Position requires the ability to sit, operate a keyboard, speak, lift to 20lbs, bend stoop, and reach
• Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day.
• Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours/day.
• Evening and weekend work required to attend parish events and community gatherings.
• Local travel required; must have reliable transportation.
• Hybrid work arrangements may be available based on departmental needs.
